According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the CDP has a total region of 11.7 square miles (30.2 km2), of which 9.3 square miles (24.0 km2) is territory and 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2), or 20.44%, is water. It is considered to be the South Side of Maui, positioned on the leeward side of Haleakala.

There were 6,170 homeholds out of which 32.0% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 45.7% were married couples living together, 10.6% had a female homeholder with no husband present, and 38.2% were non-families.
